Trenchless Technology Trenchless Technology is the newest method of installing underground utilities, such as water, sewer, and drainage using non-intrusive methods. Trenchless Technology consists of Pipe Jacking, Pipe Bursting, Water Jetting, Air Compression, Pneumatic Moles and Directional Drilling. It has been used in river crossings, wetland areas, road and highway crossings, and many other applications. In the Fall of 1998, we used directional drilling to install 600' of sewer line under the Shawsheen River from the Tewksbury Townhouse Condo's to Arlington Street (off Shawsheen Street). Directional Drilling is the most accurate method to control installation. We use a specially designed drilling machine, along with environmentally safe drilling fluid. By making a single drill hole in the ground, and using sophisticated locating equipment, the location of the drill head can be monitored from above ground, with the ability to change the direction of the drill head as it moves along the proposed path. The drill hole can be located outside of the wetland border and the only disturbance to the wetlands would be the operator of the hand held locator equipment following the progress of the drill head while walking through the wetlands. We are one of the few companies on the East Coast that have invested in the future with the proper machines, training, experience and computer technology. We are very pleased to bring this new, complex technology to the area. Polyethylene Pressure Pipe comes in various diameter sizes and has outstanding chemical resistance. Unlike asbestos or steel pipe it is non-contaminating to the earth, is flexible with a bending radius of 10 times it's diameter, has excelent hydraulics, is lightweight and abrasive resistant. The joints are heat welded together eliminating couplings, rubber gaskets and slip joints. Polyethylene pipe is made from high density, extra high molecular weight compound equaling a PE 3480 designation and shall conform to ASTM-1248 and ASTM-3350; With a cell classification of 345434C.
